Earlier today we begin our journey to the Atacama Desert. The road will take us to the city of La Serena, capital of the Coquimbo Region; previously we will cross the Fray Jorge National Park, which is cold forest closer to the line of Ecuador on the planet, being in full arid zone. Free tour of La Serena, at night hotel.
Departing from La Serena, you will use Route 5 north to the city of Vallenar, then you will go to the coast and follow the coastal path to face the first part of the desert. In the afternoon, visit Bahía Inglesa (wear a bathing suit) and Caldera.

Today, you will enter the true Atacama Desert, it is dry, inhospitable, silent, and hot. You will visit the city of Taltal where you can have lunch and later, get to know the "Hand of the Desert". Later, you will go to the Valley of the Moon to wait for the sunset.

The dawn will find you on the way to Geysers del Tatio, (minivan, for security reasons). Arrival at the hotel and walk to Pukará de Quitor. You will have a free afternoon to visit San Pedro de Atacama.
A clear and hot day awaits you, visit PN Los Flamencos, a highland lagoon (Meñiques and Mizcanti) above 4,000 meters above sea level, and rest in the hotel. Desert lunch in Socaire, visit Laguna de Chaxa among others and rest in the hotel. It's going to be a long and interesting journey.
Today, you start the return. You will arrive in the town of Toconce and continue the trip to Peine, then, cross the Salar de Atacama through the driest and most inhospitable sector to end the day in Antofagasta.
